About this listing
Stay in your own private camping field with the fell on one side and stunning views of Ingleborough, the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District fells on the other. There is a quiet bridleway on the other side of one of the walls so expect the odd walker/ mountain biker going past, but otherwise it’s yours and yours alone for the duration of your stay!
For 2025 The Top Meadow will offer one empty 5m bell tent – to be used as an all-weather hang out, or to sleep in if you bring your own mats and bedding. The bell tent is situated on well-draining limestone and the field feels private and very much off-grid.
There is flat camping space for 3-4 small tents, or 2 large tents. Plenty more space that isn’t 100% flat, but we usually say 12 people maximum if it’s families camping together, or 6 adults maximum as long as everyone has read our campsite rules and knows that we’re a quiet site.
- Versatile space for private camping and with use of an empty 5m bell tent
- £70 per night for up to 5 people, including use of a 5m empty bell tent (with fully zipped-in floor)
- Fire pit/ BBQ
- Gas cooking facilities
- Private toilet and shower
- Outdoor seating and hammock
- £70 per night for up to 5 people camping only (including use of the empty bell tent)
- One Greener Camping Club membership required per booking (or £12 annual membership fee if there are no current members in your group)
- We allow dogs from May to September, but please note that The Top Meadow is not fully fenced so dogs need to be tethered or on a lead at all times due to the close proximity of livestock.

We’ve just had the most amazing little holiday testing out our friends’ new campsite, Once Upon A Fell, near Hutton Roof, Kirkby Lonsdale kind of area in south Cumbria. (Just – it’s really close to the Lancashire and North Yorkshire borders, too.) When they get themselves fully open, I definitely recommend you take a look. You’ll see Digit in the photos but, as a rule, it’s a no dog site due to it being a farm and proximity to livestock — but as Jon needs Digit as his assistance dog, he had an exemption. Amazing break. So exciting to do something different. Thank you so much, Daniel and Pam: all the best for a brilliant first season.

Us Mitchells have just got back from such gloriously sunny, idyllic glamping break at Once Upon a Fell .
Pam and Dan have put so much work, detail and care into their site! They are so welcoming and passionate about their eco-glamping site that they have built themselves!
We had the pleasure of testing out the 4.5 bell tent which is well equipped with everything you could want and super toasty with the log burner going.
We started our weekend trip straight from the school pick up and onto the train, it felt like a right adventure!
This was our first time out of Manchester in well over a year and I was a little apprehensive but the trains were empty and the journey was relatively short to Carnforth.
Once we arrived at the campsite Pam lead the tour and then we got settled.
We were on the green, the views are spectacular! We are not seasoned campers or very outdoorsy. The boys went on a little strolls and I read my book, had many brews and took in the view and just relaxed for the first time in over a year! It was bloody lovely not to even think about social distancing and just enjoy the distance! No masks, no fear, no constant hand gel either!
We have all relaxed, had continuous BBQs, played lots of card games, saw our good friends, football, made smores, toasted marshmallows, petted lambs and soaked up the surroundings.
I am a bit in awe of these two and everything they’ve accomplished with their project. We wish you every success with your venture.
I will be recommending you far and wide! Good luck the Lloyds!
